An On-chip Whole Blood/plasma Sepa- Rator with Colloidal Silica Bead-packed Microchannel on Coc Polymer
نویسندگان
چکیده
A disposable on-chip whole blood/plasma separator, which is able to separate plasma from whole blood by capillary movement through a bead-packed microchannel, has been designed, fabricated and characterized in this work. Various sized silica beads were packed inside a microchannel using a slurry-bump pattern that prevented the beads from passing through the microchannel. The bead-packed microchannel impedes the movement of red blood cells (RBCs), resulting in plasma separation from whole blood. The developed separator provides a new approach to on-chip separation of plasma/serum for point-of-care testing (POCT).

An on-chip whole blood/plasma separator using hetero-packed beads at the inlet of a microchannel.
A disposable rapid on-chip whole blood/plasma separator has been simply implemented by packing two different sizes of silica beads at the inlet of a microchannel for application to point-of-care (POC) clinical diagnostics. Our suggested technique can be utilized to implement an integrated microfilter for a wide range of Lab-on-a-Chip (LOC) devices.
متن کاملSelf-assembly of Colloids for Plastic Capillary Electrochromatography Chip
In this work we have developed and characterized a novel fabrication process for producing dense, porous array of silica particles packed inside a plastic microfluidic channel. The novel approach relies on in-situ crystallization of colloidal silica particles within specific regions of a microchannel defined by plasma processing. These selfassembled silica colloids through a plastic microchanne...

A new on-chip whole blood/plasma separator driven by asymmetric capillary forces, which are produced through a microchannel with sprayed nanobead multilayers, has been designed, fabricated and fully characterized. The silica nanobead multilayers revealing as superhydrophilic surfaces have been fabricated using a spray layer-by-layer (LbL) nano-assembly method. This new on-chip blood plasma sepa...
متن کاملUse of colloidal silica-beads for the isolation of cell-surface proteins for mass spectrometry-based proteomics.
Chaney and Jacobson first introduced the colloidal silica-bead protocol for the coating of cellular plasma membranes in the early 1980s. Since then, this method has been successfully incorporated into a wide range of in vitro and in vivo applications for the isolation of cell-surface proteins. The principle is simple - cationic colloidal silica microbeads are introduced to a suspension or monol...
متن کاملCharge stabilized crystalline colloidal arrays as templates for fabrication of non-close-packed inverted photonic crystals.
We developed a straightforward method to form non-close-packed highly ordered fcc direct and inverse opal silica photonic crystals. We utilize an electrostatically self assembled crystalline colloidal array (CCA) template formed by monodisperse, highly charged polystyrene particles. We then polymerize a hydrogel around the CCA (PCCA) and condense silica to form a highly ordered silica impregnat...
